Designer's Diary

This ring is a nod to antiquity and roots. Inspired by the wearer’s Greek heritage, the design pays homage to the ancient columns of Greek temples. They soar to great heights and support the family heirloom citrine that was discovered in the bazaar of Istanbul. Upcycled into a glittering modern heirloom to be passed down for generations to come.

Ring Notes

18k Yellow Gold, 38.0 carat natural Citrine, champagne colored platinum-set diamonds,

matte finishing.

Designer's Diary

This client spent many wonderful years living in Japan. During this time she collected various rings with cultured pearls (ode to the cultured pearl industry in Japan). She wanted to commemorate her time there by taking the pearls and combining them into one ring.

Ring Notes

18k yellow gold, cultured pearls.

Designer's Diary

New romances always have a twilight sort of glow. This couple was so besotted with each other that they commissioned a cocktail ring to celebrate their new union. All of the pear-shaped Amethysts were custom-cut for this piece to give it a uniform look.

Ring Notes

Oval Amethyst and Diamond Halo with custom-cut pear-shaped Amethysts.

Designer's Diary

The North Star will always guide you home. The star sapphire was originally set into an estate gentleman’s stick pin from the early 1900s belonging to the customer’s grandfather. As stick pins are no longer en vogue but star sapphires are, we turned this piece into a ring for his wife. Wanting to accentuate the “star” in the sapphire we created a compass setting dotted with diamonds. There are round and baguette diamonds on the bottom as well.

Ring Notes

Cabochon Star Sapphire, round and baguette diamonds, hand-engraving, platinum.

Designer's Diary

A tiny cosmos seems to be in constant motion in this little power pack of a ring. Surrounded by a halo of diamonds this black opal was the client’s own and originated from the Lightning Ridge mine in Australia. Surrounding the cosmos with glittering diamond stars seemed to make sense.

Ring Notes

Round Black Opal, Diamonds set in 18k yellow gold.

Designer's Diary

Life is full of layers. An intricate cigar band ring was chosen to represent the layers in this colorful and multidimensional ring. Each gemstone was taken from a client’s various stacking bands and brought them all together in one glittering ring. “I love you” in Swiss-German was engraved on the side of the ring as a tribute to her husband's heritage.

Ring Notes

18k yellow gold, rubies, and diamonds.

Designer's Diary

The name says it all. This natural topaz is the color of glistening honey and flanked by little diamonds set in a honeycomb pattern.

Ring Notes

18k yellow gold, natural pear-shaped topaz, and diamonds.

Designer's Diary

Originally hiding in a dowdy setting this glittering sapphire was ready to take flight. Repolished by our local lapidary the gemstone’s original sparkle after many years of wear and tear.

Ring Notes

18k white gold, oval blue sapphire, bezel-set marquise diamonds.

Designer's Diary

After several decades my client felt that it was time for her to redesign her engagement ring. Her original design was all platinum and more angular. She decided on a softer design and wanted a two-tone look with contrasting yellow gold and platinum. The Pathway was the journey she and her husband had undertaken together. We recreated this look by channel-setting all the small princess-cut diamonds to look like a smooth road. We kept some modern lines but gave the ring a Renaissance Italian look by hand-engraving the entire surface with delicate Florentine engraving.

Ring Notes

Platinum and 18k Yellow gold, Princess-cut diamonds and hand-engraved finishing.

Born out of style and function, this bangle bracelet was created in an oval shape so that it would be easier to wear on an everyday basis. Each diamond represents a member of the owner’s family.

Bracelet Notes

18k textured yellow gold with bezel-set diamonds.

Designer's Diary

Renaissance means renewal or revival. The client purchased this garnet as a gift for herself and wanted to design a setting that embodied the new period of her life she had entered in.

Ring Notes

18k yellow gold, Oval checkerboard facet garnet, diamonds.

Inspired by the mystical Yin and Yang symbol, this set takes on an almost ouroboros type of presence. The gold is hand-textured and the emphasis on positive and negative space is ever-present in these pieces. Forever spinning apart yet together as one.

Bracelet Notes

18k yellow gold with white gold inserts, bead-set diamonds.

Designer's Diary

Originally worn as retro, 1950s studs the client wanted to turn these earrings into drop earrings. We twisted gold wire and recreated the bamboo motif at the top and dotted it with diamonds.

Earring Notes

Matching angel skin natural coral cabochon, diamonds, hand-engraved, 18k yellow gold.

Designer's Diary

Nature has a way of revealing herself. She did exactly that with the design for these earrings as we looked to the pearls themselves for design inspiration. Only something organic would do and we picked up the hues of pinks and champagnes by matching the diamonds.

Earring Notes

Baroque freshwater pearls, champagne, peach, and colorless diamonds, hand-engraving,

18k yellow gold.

Designer's Diary

These gorgeous orchid earrings are studded with full-cut diamonds and were begging for a redesign. Someone had previously added pearls to the bottom and the design styles contrasted completely.  We removed the pearls and redesigned the bottom part of the earrings so that they appear to be climbing up the ear.

Earring Notes

Full-cut diamonds, Platinum.

Designer's Diary

This girl loves her yellow diamonds! We found this matched pair of gorgeous radiant-cut natural fancy yellow diamonds and framed them with a beautiful colorless diamond halo. What makes a piece truly a work of art is also the back. There we added intricate cutout details that look like a flower bursting. A sign of true craftsmanship.

Earring Notes

Natural, fancy radiant-cut diamonds, round colorless diamonds, 18k white gold.

Designer's Diary

The North Star will always guide you home. These Star Sapphires were originally Tiffany’s & Co. cufflinks from the 1920s. Originally owned by one man’s grandfather, he had held on to them in their original form for decades until he decided to turn them into identical earrings for his two daughters. The original bezel setting was so intricately detailed with an engraved Greek Key pattern that we decided to keep the sapphires in their original setting. We added platinum drops as well as rose-cut diamonds to complement the rounded shape of the cabochons.

Earring Notes

Cabochon star sapphires, rose-cut diamonds, platinum.

Designer's Diary

Inspired by ancient Roman earrings and originally thought to ward off evil these earrings are the ultimate anniversary gift for a lovely couple. Dangling and full of movement these earrings invoke the power of Hera herself.

Earring Notes

Natural pink coral beads, 18k yellow gold.

Designer's Diary

It was April 1955 in Santa Barbara, California and the father-of-the-bride gifted his daughter a beautiful pair of sapphire and diamond bow earrings. As time went on, one of the earrings was lost. The lone bow earring sat for years in its original box until it was brought to us for some ideas. The bow was so beautiful that we wanted to preserve it and turned it into a necklace. Now it will be gifted to the original owner’s granddaughter becoming a modern heirloom.

Necklace Notes

Sapphires and Diamonds, Platinum.

Designer's Diary

Five pendants for five women. Commissioned for five women in the same family, these necklaces had to match to celebrate the strong bond between three generations of trailblazing women. From the front each one matched but, when turned around, each one has a monogram with each woman’s first initial. Read more about this story on my blog.

Necklace Notes

Diamonds, hand-engraving, 18k yellow gold.

Designer's Diary

“Wherever I go, Whatever I do, Memories keep me near to you”. The client wanted to bring together several loose diamonds that had belonged to loving women who had strongly influenced her life. We created a stepping stone path of diamonds so she could tell the story of each one independently.

Necklace Notes

Old-mine-cut diamonds, 18k yellow gold.

Designer's Diary

Memories spent hiking the waterfalls in Yosemite were the inspiration for this pendant. We wanted to create a little vignette showing a realistic rendering of one of the Yosemite National Park waterfalls. The background was hand-engraved in yellow gold to create little trees and jagged rock formations while the lighter elements, such as the waterfall and the birds were fabricated out of platinum.

Necklace Notes

Hand-engraving, 18k yellow gold, platinum.

Designer's Diary

Able to be worn two ways, we created a unique clasp that allows the wearer to double this necklace up or let it be worn down as a sautoir for a busy businesswoman on the go. The opal was purchased on one of their trips to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and is also her birthstone. We complimented the cabochon shape of the opal with oval, rose-cut diamonds on the sides representing the four corners of the earth.

Necklace Notes

Ethiopian opal, rose-cut diamonds, 18k yellow gold.
